Kynotherapy is the method
that amplifies the efficiency of rehabilitation guided
by a qualified therapist with help of motivator - a
properly selected and trained dog.
Kynotherapist must
have versatile knowledge (pedagogic, kynologic,
veterinary, therapy techniques, elements of rehabilitate
medicine) and practical skills to lead sessions with
children and adults in range of kynotherapy in order to
help invalids efficiently. Polskie Towarzystwo
Terapeutyczne (The Polish Kynotherapeutic Society) is
supporter of Kynotherapy Training which lasts 10 months.
It gives proper abilities.
Not all gentle and pleasant dogs are able to participate
in kynotherapy. Process, from acquiring an animal to
training and allowing it to work, is long, hard and it
requires not only the kynologic knowledge but also some
experience. It can't be method of attempts and mistakes.
Kynotherapist, who works with people that need
rehabilitation, must be sure of excellence of his "tool".
A therapeutic dog must be: social, predictable and show
smart obedience.
The object of the Society is to obtain a status of a
trustworthy job. It wants to achieve that by
standardization of kynotherapists’ work and therapeutic
dogs. PTK has created The Ethic Code of Kynotherapist,
The Canon of Kynotherapy and a pattern of documents
which serves as a documentation that permits to judge
the progress of rehabilitated person as well as work of
kynotherapist and a therapeutic dog. It has also created
guidelines and programs in order to examine the
therapeutic dogs. There are 3 classes of therapeutic
dogs divided by their skills: Adept (K-A), First Class (K-I)
and Second Class (K-II). The skills are verified during
the exam organized by PTK or they are certificated by
Partner Organizations of PTK.
Quite often kynotherapists don't have possibilities or
time and strength to care about themselves because they
help other people. Therefore Polskie Towarzystwo
Kynoterapeutyczne (The Polish Kynotherapeutic Society)
has made a program - PARTNER of PTK. Thanks to it there
are signed deals with companies and organizations which
give the kynotherapists some discounts or special prices
for their wares and services. On the website
www.kynoterapia.eu functions “Kiosk of PTK” where you
can find the competent literature.
PTK has started “Forum Kynoterapeutyczne PTK” where
kynotherapists can discuss about their views and
experiences. Also parents and guardians of rehabilitated
persons can ask questions on the forum.
PTK objective is promotion of kynotherapy, standards and
good ways. We also propagate the mild practices of dogs’
training as well as we take part in education of dogs’
owners. We also include in actions on behalf of invalid
people. |
